Gurgle Baby Milestones – Software License Giveaway – Closes 23rd December 2011

The people at Gurgle Baby Milestones have offered me three licenses to give away for their software.

Let me tell you a little about how it works.

The software can be installed on a PC or a Mac in a few minutes.   Baby milestones helps you to learn about, keep track and organise all your family memories for the future and I have used information from their website to describe it quickly.

You can add all the children that you already have, and you can also keep a trying to conceive.

Many parents use scrapbooks, pieces of paper, photo albums and more to record things for the future, but the Gurgles has turned it into an easy to use permanent reminder.   The software will give you relevant reminders and information to look out for and encourate at age and stages up to age 5.

Babies start to laugh between 2-5 months of age.  So when your baby is 2 months old, a reminder to look out for their first laugh will start to appear in the list.

The first time you see a reminder, you’ll probably want to know more, so just click on the reminder.

Then, one day, your baby will laugh for the first time – a wonderful moment you’ll probably want to capture!  You can open up the reminder again and record exactly when they first laughed.  If you’ve taken photos or video of one of their first laughs you can add these to the reminder, and you can record in the notes what triggered the laugh, where you were…in fact, anything you want to record.  Then click “Turn into record” to permanently record all these things and when they happened.

Now, your baby’s first laugh will be permanently recorded for you to look back on.  You’ll no longer be reminded to look out for their first laugh, but don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more developments to look out for as your baby’s growth proceeds at an amazing pace!

There are hundreds of reminders like this, covering both big and small milestones in your child’s development to 5 years of age.

I didn’t have my children as very young babies, and using software like this might have given me something nice to look back on and remember.

As it was, I faced three toddlers arriving at once.  Sadly, taking pictures and keeping records fell by the wayside while I got to grips with being a mum.  I truly regret that I was not organised enough to record everything, as the precious little time we have when our children are young flies by so quickly.  You really wouldn’t think so, but you blink, and suddenly wake up one morning, ten years older.

—————————————————————————————————-

I have three licenses to give away.   You can try the programme for free on the website, but I have licenses for the full software package to give away, each one worth £14.99.    The winner will be chosen by random generator on the 24th December.

All you have to do is:

  • Leave a comment to tell me that you want to enter.
  • Leave me a way to contact you – either email or twitter id.
  • If you want to, you could tweet I want to win Gurgle Baby Milestones software with @scottish_mum at http://wp.me/p1aG8Y-W4.  No pressure, you’ll still be entered if you don’t.
  • For an extra entry, use a separate comment to tell me after you have followed me at Networked Blogs at Facebook.  http://www.networkedblogs.com/blog/scottish_mum/popup

Good luck.

Just Dance Kids on the Wii & Giveaway

Just Dance Kids by Ubisoft came to us recently through a lovely contact who wanted us to try it out and review the Just Dance for Kids game.

The disc has lots of kids favourites – including :

  • Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
  • Hokey Cokey
  • The Lion Sleeps Tonight
  • Jingle Bells
  • Crocodile Rock
  • Shake Your Groove Thing
  • The Shimmie Shake
  • Intuition
  • Despicable Me
  • Positivity
  • Follow The Leader
And lots lots more.  All the songs are at Just Dance Kids on the website.

It just goes to show that sometimes, kids are never too old to enjoy something that they’ve been given.    Here they are with the Gummy Bear Song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F1cJNadpkQ

My boys had a lovely afternoon playing all the songs on the disc, and we had an afternoon with friends, and their cousins over who were all younger and were tickled pink to be able to dance about to the tunes.  I wish I could have videoed them all when they were doing it, but my boys happily went on before bedtime and I managed to sneak up behind them and get the videos.

They really enjoyed going back to some of childrens songs and singing along to the older ones they knew as well as some of the more recent ones. Littlest said it was good fun being a “kid” for the day.   When you dance to the tunes, you build up a score that means you can challenge your friends and family to see who gets the blue score and is the winner with the highest score.

The screen has a cool icon that means children can skip the song themselves if they want to change the routine, and don’t have to go back into complicated menus to find the next songs.  It’s a little touch that pre-school children who don’t yet read will enjoy as they can shuffle through the songs to please themselves and choose from singers like Michael Buble, the Wiggles, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

The children here mostly played three at at time – all lined up in a row, and all having an individual score.  The game also lets them play against each other in teams to see who comes out on top.   It’s a neat feature.

My boys are getting older and we have some more games on the way to review, so we have decided that someone else should get the benefit of this disc to have fun with over Christmas.  We certainly enjoyed it.

—————————————————————————————————————

If you’d like us to send you our review copy, just leave a comment with a way to contact you – and tell me which song you like best from the playlist and why.    The full playlist is on the website – and remember this is a copy that has been opened and used for a whole day.

Disclaimer:  We were provided a copy of the Just Dance Kids Game for  the Wii to write this review.

It’s that time again, and Christmas is just around the corner.

I know, I know, I can hear you all sigh, groan, stamp your feet and run for the hills at the mention of Christmas in October and Early November.  The reality is that we either get moving and organise our Christmas presents, or we run around at the last-minute like headless chickens.

I watched this video a few times to write this post, and it made me smile.   Littlewoods seem to have captured a Christmas family favourite to showcase their Christmas gift ideas.

Littlewoods also have some fabulous 3 for 2 offers on jewellery & beauty, and some toys with as much as half price reductions.

Competition

To launch their christmas ideas advert, Littlewoods are offering a fabulous christmas giveaway for one of my readers.

The prize is going to be a goodie basket with the gifts in the picture for a mum and her child.

To enter.

  • Watch the video at the top of this post.
  • Leave a comment here saying which gift in the video would be your favourite surprise gift on Christmas day and why.  Any funny stories will be greatly welcomed to help spread Christmas Cheer around.
  • Make sure you leave your twitter id, or email address in your comment so I can contact you if you win.
  • If you would like to tweet the competition, I would be very grateful if you would click the retweet me icon on the page.

We will end the competition on the 15th November, and the Littlewoods representative and I will choose a lucky winner to receive the basket.

The winner will have 3 days to claim their prize and send their address details to me, or we will re-draw by random generator.

Good Luck and Happy Video Watching

Tickets Giveaway for LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Manchester – Ends 15th November

One of the places I have always wanted to go to in Manchester would be the Trafford Shopping Centre.  It is one of those places that just seems to have the ability to draw people toward it.   It is perhaps the reputation that goes before it.  Maybe it also has something to do with Old Trafford and the football stadium that draws us in as my boys are huge Man U fans (don’t ask me why, almost all the kids up here are).

Whatever there is to do, and there is a lot – I think I would have to have a pocket full of money before I headed down from Aberdeen again.  I spent a week there in 2003 for work, and I always vowed to go back, but sadly I haven’t made it down again yet.

There seems to be plenty of things to do in Manchester, and if my children were to have a say in where we go and what we do, then they would definitely decide to visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre as they are lego maniacs.

Halloween Manchester style seems to be overwhelmingly colourful at the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, where they are holding a monster mash LEGO building challenge every day between the 15th and the 31st October.

Giveaway

I have a family pass which will allow up to 2 adults and 2 children to experience the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre park for a day.

To enter, simply

  1. Leave a comment to say what your favourite memory of lego is.
  2. Leave your contact details in the comment, ie email address or twitter id so I can contact you if you win.
– The closing date will be :  Tuesday 15th November
– If the winner has not claimed the prize within 3 days, I will redraw another by random generator.
Good Luck

Princes Breakfast Box Giveaway – Closes 15th October

If you are part of the blogger circuit, you may have seen the posts with the hastag #princesbrekkie.   It is all about eating healthier, and making breakfast part of our five a day.  Princes chose some families and sent us a box full of goodies.

In the box was a USB stick with some recipes that we could use with the tins of fruit that we had received.    Princes recipes have lots of ideas for what we can do to reach our five-a-day.  Fruit and vegetables are thought to be one of the best sources of vitamins, minerals and fibre, helping us all to stay healthy.

We chose to make the peach muffins but we doubled the recipe and added pears as well.  In the picture the muffins look burned, but they really were not.  Sadly there are none left to retake another one to show off to you, as they were demolished by the boys very quickly.

We also made the peach and orange smoothie but again, doubled the recipe and as I had used the peaches in the muffins, we made the smoothie with pineapple and fruit cocktail.  We were planning having muffins and smoothie for breakfast the next morning and I was about to put the smoothie in the fridge, but the boys over ruled me, and it was eaten for Sunday tea.   They loved the new place mats and we had the candle burning well into the night.  Thank you Princes, we had a lovely afternoon making new things.

WIN YOUR OWN PRINCES BREAKFAST BOX OF GOODIES by 15th October

I have teamed up with Princes to offer you one of these breakfast boxes to help you take the stress out of the morning routine.

Princes prides itself on offering good value, great quality food that the family can enjoy. From canned fruit for your cereal to pure fruit juices for a refreshing morning drink, pack your cupboards with these trusty Princes products and you can whip up a healthy, delicious breakfast in minutes.

The Princes breakfast box includes a set of six bowls and six tumblers, table placemats, an alarm clock, a colouring book to entertain the kids, a relaxing candle for the mums, money-off coupons and, of course, a range of Princes canned fruit – including grapefruit segments, peach slices, pear halves, fruit cocktail, pineapple chunks and mandarin segments – and Princes pure juices.

To be in a chance of winning the breakfast box

  • Leave me a comment to say which fruit you like from the Princes website by the 15th October, and make sure you leave contact details in your comment
  • Pass on the competition to your online friends by tweeting  or messaging.
    “Win a #princesbrekkie breakfast box with @scottish_mum http://wp.me/p1aG8Y-FX”

If you don’t claim your prize by the 18th October I will redraw another winner by a random generator.

Have You Heard About Software 4 Students ? A Competition Giveaway

I am really excited about this competition.  I am going to make this an easy one though, as its so fabulous.

Any student can use the Company, which is endorsed by Microsoft as an outlet to sell educational versions of their products.  These are NOT the shortened versions that people used to buy for students and small businesses.  They are the full software packages, that can be bought by the families of children at school, or adults who are students themselves.  I have bought twice, and I absolutely love that the software is the full version when you get it.

Because they are full versions, the winner of this competition will have to adhere to the terms and conditions set by eg Microsoft, and I think that is a fair deal to get the full software at such fabulous prices.  The software is much cheaper than we could buy it for, but it will be restricted to the amount of computers it can be used on, and it is limited to non-commercial use.   You can choose to download it, or the software can be sent to you on a disk.

To buy Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus  from Software4Students, I would be  £37.89.  To buy the package from PC World today it would be £349.95.  That is a huge saving, and it includes the whole suite of software, including the full versions or Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Outlook, Publisher, Communicator and Infopath.

That is a lot of software.

The easiest way to let you know what it is exactly that they do, is to give you a short summary from them.   I have a giveaway at the end, so stick with reading.

Software4Students offers students of all ages, their parents and teachers the opportunity to make huge savings of up to 90% in software costs.

Software4Students started as a pilot program in 2005 helping disadvantaged schools to minimise the digital divide and boost social mobility, providing students with low cost opportunities to enhance their digital skillsets. Due to the success of the program it was extended it to all students and their families in the UK and Ireland, to help students prepare for their future and compete in the demanding technology–led world.

The Software4Students portfolio of products includes software from popular manufacturers like Microsoft, Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5, Kaspersky antivirus software and more. The offering has proved to be hugely successful in the past few years, being endorsed by many positive mentions on different media like The Guardian UK and a massive following of over thirteen thousand people on Facebook.

In addition to their existing offers, Software4Students has recently launched bundled packages of software that lead to even bigger savings when buying software together. And as if all of this was not enough good news for the education and parenting community, Software4Students are also giving customers the chance to win one of the hottest tablets in the market each week for the month of September when they purchase any Adobe product through their site.
———————————————————————–

GIVEAWAY

Software4Students has authorised the winners choice of any 1 of the software from Microsoft below.   The winner must be able to meet the  Terms and Conditions for students, parents and teachers.   The closing date is 29th October 2011.

> Office 2010
> Windows 7 Upgrade
> Microsoft Maths
> Microsoft Expression Studio
> Microsoft Project Pro

I know the one I would be picking if it was me, but it’s not me – so what do you have to do to win one of these fab pieces of software?  I told you it would be easy, so all I am going to ask you to do is the following.

  • Follow me on @scottish_mum on Twitter
  • Follow @studentsoftware on Twitter
  • Leave a comment saying which product you would choose and why.  (Software4Students will help choose a winner)
  • Leave your contact details, eg twitter user name, so that if you win I can contact you.
  • Tweet this
“I entered to win Microsoft Software from @studentsoftware with @scottish_mum at “
Thats it – it is easy as pie.  After the 29th October, we will pick a winner.  The winner will be notified via the contact details in the comment.    If I can’t contact you within 3 days of the competition finishing, I will redraw an alternative winner.    Find out more about Software4Students on their Website, or talk to them on Facebook or Twitter.

Good Luck

Competition / Giveaway – Do you get travel sick? Sea Bands might help.

When the lovely people at Sea Bands got in touch and asked me to review and giveaway some sets of their products, I jumped at the chance as my eldest suffers quite badly from nausea and queasiness when he is in the car.

They arrived in a nice white padded envelope and my eldest quickly scanned through the pack to find a pair that he liked.   He found the camouflage green ones, and they were never to be let go as you can see.

They are actually quite cool as far as children are concerned, because they look like wrist sweat bands, so they gain kudos for being in fashion.  There is also the added bonus of not having to give him tablets which can make him feel sleepy.

My boy has been using them now for several weeks, and I am happy to say that he seems to be managing to go on car journeys without suffering.   The potential for journeys away has now left the realms of nervous worry for him, and that has to be a good thing.

The lovely Sea Band people have also given me 4 pairs of bands to give away.   I have two pairs of adult gray bands, one pair of childs pink camouflage, and one pair of blue camouflage.

Before I go into the competition, I’ll let you know a little about Sea Bands from their literature.

Travel sickness is the nausea, dizziness and vomiting that is triggered by the messages in the brain.  We may be sitting motionless in our seats, but our senses tell us that we are moving.  That means we may end us as nauseous.

To help with travel sickness – we can:

  • Sit at the front in cars and buses, and face the direction we are travelling in on trains
  • Breathe fresh air when possible and open windows
  • Don’t eat heavy meals before travelling
  • Keep children occupied with games and looking out the window

The Sea-Band is an elastic wrist band that can help.   Accupressure has been used in Chinese medicine for over 4000 years, and the Sea-Band applies pressure to an accupressure point on your wrist, by a small plastic stud on the inside of your wrist  at a point between the two central tendons which is known to prevent or relieve feelings of nausea.

It is a natural, effective and drug free way to help take away the worst feelings of nausea, and can be worn from a young age.

They have been trialled with children aged 2-15 and gained excellent results in a large number of cases.

They are suitable for

  • Adults
  • Children 3 years and above
  • Pregnant women
  • Hospital patients
They are
  • Drug free with no side effects
  • Clinically tested
  • Used by doctors and hospitals
  • Fast acting
  • Simple to use
  • Reusable and washable
  • Sold in 50+ countries
  • Packed with a small plastic case which makes them easy to keep.
